Context
Virtual commissioning is set up to try mechanical, electrical and software integration before the site. The same validation is used for automotive new-line investments, and for metal or white-goods line conversions.

Validating PLC, robot and sensor behaviour in a virtual environment before a new line or machine is installed on site.
Solution flow

Virtual commissioning is set up to try mechanical, electrical and software integration before the site. The same validation is used for automotive new-line investments, and for metal or white-goods line conversions.

We build virtual commissioning simulation validating new line or machine before field installation. The project definition defines model scope, scenario set and acceptance criteria; PLC, robot and sensor behavior are tested in virtual environment. Field commissioning time is shortened.

Virtual commissioning report, pre-field defect list, commissioning time savings.

Acceptance requires PLC, robot and sensor behaviour to be tested against the scenario set in the virtual environment, a pre-field defect list to be produced, and the reduction in field commissioning time to be recorded.
Requires the mechanical and electrical design data and PLC program of the line or machine, definitions of the model scope and scenario set, and approval of the acceptance criteria.
How it works
Without virtual commissioning, mechanical, electrical and software integration is tested on site and downtime cost is high. This simulation validates the new line before installation; acceptance depends on producing a pre-field defect list and shortening commissioning time.
When the new line is installed on site, integration errors are found there and commissioning stretches into weeks. Every fix is paid for with production downtime.
The model scope, scenario set and acceptance criteria are defined in the project definition; PLC, robot and sensor behaviour are tested in the virtual environment. Errors are caught before they reach the field.
Acceptance is by running the scenario set, producing a pre-field defect list and recording the commissioning-time saving.
What comes next
Once virtual commissioning is stable, the digital twin and automation regression extend on the same model.
